Perama is a village located 25km from Rethymno town and it is the capital of the Mylopotamos area. To its east, the mountainous village of Perama is embraced by the blue sea of Geropotamos. Perama took its name from the Greek word ‘passage’ since it is a natural passage from and towards the villages of Mylopotamos. There is an old bridge from Perama connecting the settlement of Melidoni with Panormo. Perama was first inhabited 400 years ago but it was burnt by the Turks in 1647. Today in Perama a visitor will find all the amenities. In the center of the village, there are the churches of Agios Georgios and Agios Drakonas which are worth a visit.
