Maroulas is a quiet village above Rethymno, at an altitude of 150 meters facing the sea within a verdant ambiance including spring and several valleys. Maroulas displays a rich historical heritage and combines many architectural elements. Visitors will be enchanted by the two wonderful Venetian towers one of which is 44m high, by the remains of ancient tombstones, and by the many Byzantine churches. In the 1980s, young people left the village for the cities. Nowadays Maroulas is coming back to life with its inflow of local and foreign inhabitants and the restoration of many of the old buildings. The village attracts many artists such as painters and photographers with its various themes; narrow alleys, old doors, doorknobs, and stone mosaics. Stroll around the cobbled alleys and enjoy traditional tastes in the taverns of the village and mingle with the hospitable locals.

This journey was fantastic. Because of the fortified homes and distinctive architecture of Maroulas, we've always wanted to go there. It boasts wonderful views and is located far above Rethymno. The residents we encountered in the area were quite polite, and it isn't overrun with tourists. I got a hug when I pulled over to ask for directions.
The village of Maroulas is in a prime location; Rethymnon can be reached in just 12–15 minutes by car, and it is only 7 minutes to the beach, Platanes' shops, tavernas, and bars. The villa's design gives complete seclusion. Additionally, the house never gets too hot because of the strong walls and air conditioning. The property has a ton of great places to relax, including the courtyard, terrace, living room, dining room, numerous nooks, and even a wine-tasting area. We have been given really cozy accommodations. Everyone can have the space they require at this fantastic base.
