Angeliana is a mountain village at a distance of 22km from Rethymno on the way to Perama. It is one of the most reputed mountain villages of Crete. The name Angeliana is said to be connected to the fact that the village served as a notice station in the past. Most of the residents of Angeliana descend from the region of Sfakia and are employed primarily with agriculture and livestock farming. The central and biggest church of the village is that of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and bellow that there is a WW2 memorial. A little further from the central square you will find the church of Agios Antonios with noteworthy frescoes.
