Gerani is a village located approximately 9km from Rethymno at an altitude of 90m. Gerani is nestled in a verdant ambiance surrounded by olive groves, carob and oak trees and with a magnificent view of the Cretan sea. Gerani displays great touristic infrastructure and provides its visitors with all amenities. The village took its name from a kind of pump which used to be the only well of Gerani. What stands out in the village is the cave of Gerani adorned with stalagmites as well as a big three-story tower that dates back to the 16th century. Today only one story has been preserved. The most important and oldest church is that of Panagia Kamariani by the sea.
