Sitia is a town located 70 km east of Agios Nikolaos. The port of Sitia accommodates many fishing boats and several waterfront restaurants and cafes which create a colorful and relaxing atmosphere where visitors can taste local delicacies or enjoy a coffee. Sitia includes a sandy beach east of the port that offers various sea sport activities. A small part of the remains of a Venetian fortress which used to stand east of the town can be seen today, adding to the atmospheric beauty of Sitia. Sitia is a transportation hub and one can visit beautiful monasteries, archeological sites, and some idyllic beaches in the wider region. From Sitia, boats depart regularly for the island of Rhodes and there is also a small airport with a few flights operate during the summer months.
