Gavalochori Chania is a traditional settlement, of Apokoronas area 26 km southeast of Chania. To a great extent, Gavalochori has maintained its traditional character being almost untouched by tourism. Its architecture comprises some beautiful stone-built houses, white paved streets, and lovely churches. Most of the inhabitants deal with agriculture and produce olive oil, figs, almonds and honey. In Gavalochori one will witness the long tradition of kopaneli, a technique of lace needling that dates from the Byzantine times. Also, there are two 16th century great churches, Virgin Mary and Agios Sergios and an interesting folklore museum including folk costumes, old coins, weaponry, old furniture and other. In close distance are found the popular tourist resorts of Almyrida, Georgioupoli and Kalyves with crystalline waters and great beach infrastructure.

The villa was simply divine it’s set on top of the hill so you have a gorgeous view with great amenities. I had my 50 birthday party there and it was perfect to host ten people. The host literally thought of everything and welcomed us with a beautiful welcome basket. I’d definitely recommend it to friends
This is a beautiful villa. The quality of the villa exceeded our expectations. Every room was decorated and maintained to a high standard. The living space was big and ideal for our large family, including our 4 young grand-daughters as well. The children loved the pool and the surrounding area was well maintained. It was all exceptionally clean as well and continued to be regularly cleaned throughout our stay - not just once a week, and with a young family, this was really appreciated! The host was very supportive, and welcoming and gave us lots of hints and tips on places and restaurants to visit. We had a power cut one evening but this was resolved very quickly by the host, far quicker than if this had happened in England! Overall, we had an amazing time and we all really loved the villa
We had a very pleasant stay at this Villa – it fully met our expectations. The host followed up with us throughout the entire stay. He brought eggs from his own chickens, local honey, wine, and more. The pool is large and spacious and lived up to our expectations. We can definitely recommend vacationing here. It's a good idea to have a small rental car so you can easily get to Vamos and Almyrida.
The host was top notch ! The villa was perfect for our group- we had 2 families - 5 adults and 4 kids. The house was spacious and clean, and the pool and the view spectacular. The towns of Vamos and Gavalohori were a short drive away - both with great tavernas and charm. I’d highly recommend staying at this villa!!
Amazing Villa with a beautiful view, pool, and well equipped! We stayed 10 people and had plenty of room - the host is very helpful!
Our family of 6 adults and 2 children stayed at the villa for a week. The property is very clean, well maintained and tastefully decorated. The view is beautiful. Our host George was very quick to offer help - he took us to the local mini-market on the first day so we could pick up some shopping. We wanted some kitchenware and he purchased this for us within hours and bought them to the villa. He also arranged a local lady (Vicky) to come and cook Cretan cuisine at the villa for us. Also the gardens are full of fruits - we ate plums and nectarines, juiced the oranges and lemons (juicer in kitchen) and used the oregano, thyme and rosemary in our cooking. The host's dad bought us a bag of 18 fresh eggs from his farm. Good points about the villa: effective air-conditioning, spacious bedrooms, electric blackout shutters (good for kids and keeping house cool), kitchen stocked with amenities like dishwasher tablets, condiments, coffee pods. Washing machine and washing liquid. Welcome pack with pasta, oil, wine. Decent number of bath and pool towels, midweek clean with new towels and linen, smartTV with Amazon Prime, pool (1.1-1.8m depth) has steps which were good for my children, lots of pool loungers and lilos. Outside BBQ (easy to use). The villa is on a plot of land with an offset adjacent property. There is a common gated driveway and the gardens/pool are partitioned. The herb garden is shared. Overall we had a lovely holiday in a modern, well-kept villa with an attentive host.
AMAZING villa from start to finish. Villa is huge, with 5 big bedrooms. It is brand new and we were the first visitors! it is obvious that so much care has been taken to build and equip this beautiful villa. Everything was new and immaculate. Upstairs - 3 bedrooms. Master bedroom has beautiful canopy-type bed with ensuite bathroom. You can lie in bed and look at the amazing view through the ceiling to floor windows (view is of mountains and the beautiful bay of Souda), and these open onto the huge balcony upstairs. The view was incredible to wake up to. Other 2 bedrooms are twin bedrooms, one of which has a small roof terrace. All 5 bedrooms have great air conditioning, electric blackout blinds (great for sleeping babies/kids as you can make the rooms pitch black if needed), very quiet in the bedrooms once doors are shut. Another large bathroom upstairs with a bath/shower and washing machine. Bedrooms had a choice of firm or soft pillows. Bathrooms all had locally made olive oil toiletries, our host also provided lovely baby products for the kids! Cleaners came once every 3 days to clean and change linen. Upstairs balcony has a dining table. Hallway upstairs is large with a seating area. Downstairs - Lounge/dining area. Huge dining table and lovely seating area. Airconditioned throughout. Both overlooking the incredible view with glass sliding doors onto the covered terrace. Kitchen is great, with lovely extras like filter coffee machine (filters provided), another espresso machine (coffee pods were provided), juicer (local oranges were delicious and we made fresh orange juice every morning). There was also sandwich toaster. Dishwasher (owner provided washing tablets for this). Huge fridge freezer. Additional 2 bedrooms downstairs - one with a king bed, other room has two twin beds. Both had big doors leading to outside terraces, both air-conditioned. Huge bathroom downstairs. Outside there are two large dining tables and a comfortable sofa-type seating area. 4 burner large gas barbecue which was brand new. Lovely big pool with loads of sun loungers. I cannot emphasise how gorgeous the view is of the bay and mountains. Beautifully landscaped gardens with lovely flowers, lemon trees and lovely herb garden where we picked fresh herbs for cooking. The host who built/owns the villa was wonderful and so helpful. He offered to meet us halfway from the airport to guide us in (though we did not require this as had the GPS coordinates). He provided so many thoughtful things like a welcome basket (with local pasta, bread, olive oil, wine, raki), and fresh eggs. His father lives in the local village Gavalochori and stopped by twice, with freshly laid eggs and freshly dug potatoes from his farm! If we needed anything, the host was there within minutes, and very easily contactable by phone. Villa is 45 min drive from Chania airport. It is 2 min drive downhill to the local village Gavalachori, and 5 min drive to Vamos. Both towns have small mini markets...
The view is far more spectacular than you might imagine from the pictures. We spent lots of time just enjoying it. But equally important, this is a spacious, comfortable, and stylish villa that exceeds expectations. We are a family of 8 adults and 1 three-year old child. We had such a wonderful time cooking, eating, swimming, sleeping and exploring. The hosr is right next door and available to meet any need. The villa is quiet and about a kilometer from the nearby village, which has a couple of very good taverns. There is also a wonderful family beach nearby with lots of great restaurants. So plenty to do without going far. A car makes all the difference. We stayed for two weeks and we left with great sadness but feeling recharged.

Wunderbare Lage mit Blick zur Souda Bay und den Lefka Ori. Villa ist ein perfekt eingerichtetes, sehr gepflegtes kleines Haus mit großer Terrasse zum Meer. Der große Privatpool (4×10 m) ist göttlich. Sehr freundlicher und warmherziger Vermieter, der immer ansprechbar ist und uns nicht nur mit einem Willkommenskorb mit selbst produziertem Olivenöl und Wein begrüßt hat, sondern uns auch während des Aufenthalts mit frischem Obst, Gemüse und Eiern versorgt hat. Kretische Gastfreundschaft ist legendär!?
Die kleinen Orte Vamos und Gavalochori sind jeweils ca 1.5 km entfernt und bieten jede Menge Tavernen, Kafenions und Supermärkte. Tipp: den Oldtownwalk des Vamos Tourist Office gehen!
Mietwagen ist unabdingbar, aber für Ausflüge sowieso anzuraten.
SAT-TV hatte keine deutschen Sender, aber haben wir nicht vermisst. Eine bessere Matratze wäre schön, das war der einzige Minuspunkt ? W-Lan funktionierte übrigens hervorragend, auch am Pool.
