Kalythies is a traditional village located 13 km south of Rhodes Town and 2 km from the cosmopolitan resort of Faliraki. The architecture of Kalythies is characteristic with its narrow paved streets and picturesque houses and the location of the village overlooks the bay of Kallithea. There are monasteries of cultural and historical interest close to Kalythies, such as the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savor and the Monastery of Virgin Eleoussa with two Medieval coat of arms. Close to Kalythies, worth visiting is the Cave of Kalamonias with impressive stalactites and human traces that date back to the Neolithic Era. Kalythies is also renowned for the impressive Holy Cross festival that takes place on the 13th of September.
