About the Location

Spain, Mallorca, Consell

Consell is located inland of Mallorca and its local economy is based on agriculture and livestock. This beautiful town with its small population boasts vast vineyards in its surrounding area and the community has an excellent reputation for its bodegas where fine quality wines, many of them local, can be tasted and purchased.

The town displays an interesting Church and main square where the weekly market takes place. The Church of Our Lady of the Visitation is the most striking sandstone building attracting many tourists. Especially charming, the tower's stunningly beautiful rose window and the clock on the stone-built facade. The Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) opposite the Church, is built of ancient stone and in straight lines.

Consell has gained an enviable reputation aside for its bodegas, for the outstanding antique market, held each Sunday, found in the industrial area of Consell. This antique fair is one of the most popular such events on the island of Mallorca.

The most popular festivals are Consell de Sant Bartomeu, the patron of the town, celebrated on August 24 each year where there are many unique performances. Also interesting is the Festival of Sant Antoni which takes place on January 17 each year which celebrates the traditional blessings of animals. Later, there is an afternoon parade of floats. Also, they light a traditional bonfire, upon which the locals prepare, spicy sausage and other typical Mallorcan products from pork products.
