While practically untouched by the modern world, Kelusa is also a surprisingly few minute's drives down the hill to Ubud, a very large, bustling village which, with its world-renowned restaurants, dance performances, art galleries, and nearby 5-star hotels, is considered to be the cultural center of Bali.
Villa Kelusa Bali blends together two properties, Pondok Sapi (the Shed of the Cow) and Pondok Surya (Sunset House), which can be rented separately or together. All bedrooms, as well as living and dining areas, have breathtaking views. To the north, Pondok Sapi is named after the ubiquitous thatched cow sheds which dot the jungles and also shelter the farmers in their rice terraces and was designed as the private residence of a retired American writer and television journalist. Three separate buildings make up Pondok Sapi: a glass studio with two spacious en-suite master bedrooms and a library; a large open-air living pavilion with a gourmet kitchen and a media room which can be converted into a third luxury bedroom; and a private entertainment cabana with infinity pool and lounge area.
Pondok Surya, or Sunset House, was also designed with open, panoramic views of the rice paddies, jungle, and mountains. Villa Kelusa Bali has a large, second-story in-suite master bedroom with a wrap-around terrace, guest bedroom, and smaller kitchen. There is also another infinity pool that runs through the house, separating the living and entertainment areas.
Ubud is considered to be Bali's cultural heart and here you will find the most important art museums of Bali. It's just an hour's drive north of the airport and among the mountains. Ubud is also home to one of Bali's royal families and it features a majestic palace in the center of town. Ubud is also renowned as a crafts center. There are numerous shops selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewellery in Ubud. Ubud's main street is dotted with dozens of art studios, an excellent local craft market and plenty of galleries.
Around Ubud, popular are the villages of Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan and Batuan, which specialize in crafts and woodcarving, sold all over the island. Ubud Monkey Forest is the most popular stop for tourists in the town of Ubud. Macaque monkeys roam freely to this green paradise which also includes an imposing temple complex. Ubud rice fields still cover a large part of Ubud, despite its development that can be easily reached on foot or by bicycle and are definitely a cultural experience. The Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah) is located just 10 minutes south of Ubud and is one of the most sacred places of Bali. Along with this, there is a great variety of Hindu temples that you can visit for free or with a small donation.
Ubud is a great place for shopping and almost a sophisticated experience in respect to the more mass production touristy shops of Kuta. You can also get holistically healed in one of the exclusive spas of Ubud; an experience that can be shared with the whole family and friends. Your visit to Ubud would be incomplete without watching a traditional dance performance. Although a touristic sight, it will give you an insight to the Hindu legends

Great resort - high quality materials reminded me of an Aman. They keep the grounds immaculate. The villas overlook a lush valley. The staff have been here for years and will look you after very well. Plus for animal lovers - there is a dog and cat on the grounds!
We had a Balinese dinner here one night and the food from the cook (who lives in the village nearby) was excellent.
Ubud is about a 10 minute drive away. So shopping and food is nearby. We didn’t want to leave the villa while we were there though!
We booked our stay at this villa after seeing the amazing pictures online and I must say the pictures don’t do the villa justice. It is a breathtaking villa.
The villa, located in a traditional village (not too touristy) gave a true sense of being in authentic Ubud. It accommodated my large group of 8, with 2 separate villas, 2 pools and exceptional views.
The staff were so welcoming and on arrival gave us all tamarind juice followed by a tour of the property. We had breakfast included which was always delicious! And a few nights there we requested for the chef to prepare dinner, which was probably one of the best meals we had in Bali.
Wayan was extremely accommodating of all our requests and went above and beyond to translate and confirm many activities my group wanted to do.
I would recommend this villa to everyone and would stay here again!

The master bedroom has an amazing view of the rice terrace ,mountain caps(volcano). A hand carved deep soaker wood tub to start & finish the lazy Bali days is spectacular.
Wayan and his team were genuinely attentive and helpful for all of our dining, car rental etc needs.
Breakfast: black rice pudding was soothing, poached eggs are hard to do poorly and the mango smoothies topped us up for the days.

we made the long trek form the united states looking for some relaxation and an immersion in balinese culture. we put a lot of effort to make sure our stay would be as close to experiencing the "heart" of bali as possible. villa kelusa delivered just that...and more.
We stayed a week in this beautiful, peaceful retreat and i only dream of going back. when you think of a taking vacation in bali, the staff, the location, the beautiful property, the food and more were captured brilliantly at villa kelusa. from the moment you begin your drive up through the lush green jungle and rice patties to the moment you arrive in the open air living room of villa kelusa, you have already transported yourself into the heart of bali. just a short drive from the center of the buzzing town the home is just breathtaking as it sits on top of a ridge overlooking the valley. the manicured grounds have little stone balinese statues and the walls are adorned with the most tasteful selection of artifacts. they have managed to perfectly blend modernism with cultural bali. the rooms are beautiful with stunning views and impeccably clean. the beds are cozy... so much, you might get too much sleep there! you have options of indoor and outdoor showers and tubs which has just the most relaxing and healing spa-like feel. The infinity pool just takes your stay to the next level, the sun hits it so it's water is warm and if you need shade, step under the thatched pool house living room, a perfect reading spot.
you will be taken care above and beyond by villa kelusa's family. sarayu is one of the top bali chefs who can whip up anything...we had the best salad dressings, italian food, indonesian food....and the breakfasts were just delicious! the staff does not forcibly " intrude" in your space, they are more like ghosts so it feels like you are at your own home. wayan who runs the property will get you anything you want, prepares you for your trips around town like providing sarongs for the temples and he comes with the wisdom of the best recommendations in ubud and in bali. he is so sweet and kind, he will take care of you better than any 5 star hotel butler ever could. would i recommend this place? absolutely, without a doubt! it will only be a short while before i come back to this magical place!
This place is just absolutely amazing. Should it just be hanging out in the villa the entirety of your stay or hanging around Ubud, this is THE villa to be.
