Kato Pedina is a village in the Ioannina regional unit in Epirus, Greece, and belongs to the municipality of Zagori, being one of the 46 villages of Zagoria also known as Zagorochoria. It is situated on a mountainside at 940m altitude, in the northwestern foothills of the Mitsikeli Mountains. It is believed that the village is the compaction of the surrounding villages, Karapoulos and especially Smolisos. Kato Pedina has a long history that can be traced to the locations “Gorgia” and “Lakia Spanou” with archaeological findings of tombs that date back to the 11th – 12th centuries. The findings are kept at the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina. In the 14th century, the area was fortified to be protected against Turks and Albanians and ruins of the walls can be found to this day.
