Havriata is a village of the peninsula of Paliki in western Kefalonia, built at an altitude of 83m upon a hill. It boasts panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and it has been named as the “balcony of the Ionian Sea”. Most of Havriata inhabitants are engaged with agriculture. The Church of Madonna in Havriata is a significant gem of the post-byzantine era and is believed to date back to the 16th century. It is adorned with beautiful murals and frescoes and displays a wooden carved altarpiece, a true masterpiece of the ecclesiastic art, worth a visit.
Kefalonia is the largest island of the Ionian group, located between Lefkada and Zante.
