About the Location

Greece, Rhodes

Rhodes Town in the Dodecanese is the capital of Rhodes and of the Dodecanese group, divided into two parts; the Old or medieval and the New City. The New City of Rhodes was constructed outside the walls. The Old City with its fortress walls is one of the biggest and best preserved medieval settlements in Europe. This is the place of many eras which passed through antiquity, Byzantine times and Middle Ages to the Turkish rule. Consequently, this influenced its architecture in buildings such as the grandiose Palace of the Grand Master, the unique hospital of the Knights, the building of the Colloquium, its Gothic and Byzantine churches, mosques along with the stone arches and apses of the town, the Palace of the Castellan and mansions influenced by Venetian and Arab style. Another architectural masterpiece that stands out is the New Market building with its round domes and gold decoration, hosting cafes, shops and restaurants. Rhodes is famed for its luxurious shopping scene. The Governor's Palace is also worth seeing, combining Byzantine, medieval and Spanish architectural styles. Famous for its entertainment and cosmopolitan character, Rhodes city hosts a casino, a National Theatre and a traditional Dance Theatre.

Rhodes is the largest and most popular island of the Dodecanese. Also known for having 300 days of sunshine per year, Rhodes Island is mostly famous for the romantic Old Town and the amazing beach resorts. The Old Town is among the best-preserved Medieval Towns of Europe, with strong walls, a mythical castle, paved paths and elegant stone mansions. Rhodes Island is geographically located between Karpathos and Kos and it is, along Santorini and Mykonos, among the most popular Greek islands.

Each island in the Aegean has its own identity of unique wild beauty and rich cultural heritage. Some of these pristine islands are for the most part unexplored, such as Chios, Lesvos, Samos and Thasos, while others display a very vibrant day and nightlife and is where the heart of tourism beats, such as cosmopolitan Mykonos, Santorini with the most mesmerizing sunset, Rhodes with the biggest square in Europe and the Achillion palace of princess Sissy, and Paros and Ios with their whitewashed alleys and welcoming turquoise beaches.

Being among the top 20 tourist destinations worldwide, Greece is synonymous with 3 things: history and ancient civilization, amazing landscapes and top touristic destinations. Greece is so wealthy in culture and beauty that it never seems to be completely explored. Holidays in Greece is the ultimate experience all year round. It offers a great pallet of experiences; the warm sun, the crystal clear beaches, the dramatic nature, the rich culture and the renowned hospitality along with the unique culinary experience of the Mediterranean diet.

I would highly recommend

We are a family of 5 and absolutely loved our time in Old Rhodes Town. If you are considering staying inside the old city walls (highly recommended) then I would definitely recommend this home. The location is perfect as we were able to walk everywhere inside Old Town. There’s plenty to do, see and eat. The hosts were very helpful and responsive. They arranged transportation as well as day trips for us.
