Lech, Arlberg is a mountain village and an exclusive ski resort in the Bludenz district in Austria on the banks of the river Lech. It is an internationally known winter sports resort on the mountain range Arlberg. The village of Lech dates back to the fourteenth century. In the last decades, winter tourism has upgraded the small town into a flourishing winter resort. Lech is one of Austria's main attractions for the rich and famous, attracting a lot of jet-setters and royalty.
Lech developed with caution and not excessively and managed to maintain the charm that fueled its popularity among the upper levels of society. The village’s relative isolation is another reason for that popularity since it is a hideaway for the famous. There are pistes for all levels, from the beginners to the most experienced skiers. Lech like most ski resorts in Austria, came to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s with the growing popularity of this sport. This transformed the poor mountain farming villages of the area into exclusive resorts. Lech today a permanent population of approximately 1500 people.

The village owns its name to the word: “Stube” which means living room in German, due to the fact that Stuben was established to be the last place where travelers could seek shelter in a heated “Stube” before heading up and over the Arlberg Pass. The charisma of the region increased dramatically after 2016 when the new cable car glided over from Alpe Rauz to Zurs, connecting Tirol with Vorarlberg and making Austria the largest connected ski resort.
