About the Location

Austria, Arlberg, Lech

Lech, Arlberg is a mountain village and an exclusive ski resort in the Bludenz district in Austria on the banks of the river Lech. It is an internationally known winter sports resort on the mountain range Arlberg.  The village of Lech dates back to the fourteenth century. In the last decades, winter tourism has upgraded the small town into a flourishing winter resort. Lech is one of Austria's main attractions for the rich and famous, attracting a lot of jet-setters and royalty.

Lech developed with caution and not excessively and managed to maintain the charm that fueled its popularity among the upper levels of society. The village’s relative isolation is another reason for that popularity since it is a hideaway for the famous. There are pistes for all levels, from the beginners to the most experienced skiers. Lech like most ski resorts in Austria, came to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s with the growing popularity of this sport. This transformed the poor mountain farming villages of the area into exclusive resorts. Lech today a permanent population of approximately 1500 people.

Arlberg consists of five villages, St. Anton, St Christoph, Stuben. Zurs and Lech! It is an ideal destination for winter sports In the fresh cold mountain air. Social meeting point and a grande tourist region, Arlberg is a legendary spot. The Austrian Ski Resort of Stuben is known as the birthplace of the Arlberg’s most famous son, Hannes Schneider, who contributed greatly to the Arlberg’s reputation as the “Cradle of Alpine skiing”. The village owns its name to the word: “Stube” which means living room in German, due to the fact that Stuben was established to be the last place where travelers could seek shelter in a heated “Stube” before heading up and over the Arlberg Pass. The charisma of the region increased dramatically after 2016 when the new cable car glided over from Alpe Rauz to Zurs, connecting Tirol with Vorarlberg and making Austria the largest connected ski resort.

You will blink from the beauty of Austria with its rich history and mountainous landscapes. Austria is the country of the “Classics” since Mozart, Strauss, Mahler, Haydn, and Schubert were echoed as loudly as ever at the concert halls of Vienna. Austria with its mainly spoken language German and a high standard of living is the ideal country for winter as well as summer holidays. From the gorgeous alpine summits to the imperial Vienna, Austria with its diverse architectural styles will exceed your expectations!
