The pre arrival communication and information received about Surin Heights was really helpful and contributed to the anticipation and expectations about the holiday for all our family, we were able to ask our questions about the forthcoming holiday and about the villa and Phuket in general, and received more really useful feedback. (Bartering? A nightmare for me but Tim and Louis enjoyed the process and got some amazing deals! Driving a hire car...not for me, but Tim managed OK) Marianne and Stephen's recommendations on things to do, places to go were much appreciated. I would highly recommend taking a Thai cooking course to all. There are loads advertised round and about, we did ours at the Pum Thai Restaurant and Cooking School at Patong Beach, and are still cooking the 12 dishes we learnt to make between us now we're back home.
The villa in Surin Heights is an oasis of calm after driving in Phuket. Even with the website photos and information we weren't quite prepared for this beautiful property. It was just like in the photos and then some! The layout really worked for us, the villa, which is split over three floors is spacious, light filled, beautifully decorated and thought out, it was a pleasure and a treat to be in such a gorgeous space, indoors and out. The main living space had the most amazing views, day and night, in sunshine and during a couple of storms. The art works and furniture make for equally interesting indoor views, we all had different favourites, mine were the collection of canvases leading up to and in the master bedroom, and also the two gentlemen in the TV room ( we didn't switch the TV on once in the two and a bit weeks we were there). Comfy beds, crisp bed linen, a well equipped kitchen, plenty of fridge space, a great sound system, Marianne and Stephen have thought of everything. The property management team and the wonderful Maya were really reactive and helpful whenever there were any small queries or questions on our part, the grounds and drive up to the villa were attended to every day.
The villa is in a great location and we loved that we could set out on foot to eat/have a drink at the various restaurants on Surin Beach or the beach five minutes in the opposite direction. The time of year really suited us as it wasn't too busy. There is so much to see and do here: swimming took up a lot of our time, in the pool and the sea, massages, shrines, other beaches further afield, Big Bhudda, boat trips to the National Park round the islands to the North East of Phuket (my birthday treat, a memorable day), other resorts etc. There is so much we didn't see this time around as we split our time between relaxing at the villa, and trips out and about. Next time...The contrast between the stunning and perfect beaches and crazy drives through towns where streets are lined with cables, tuk tuks and mopeds will stay with me for a very long time. We didn't always fare too well in Phuket town itself, maybe we should have tackled it at the end of our stay rather than the beginning?
All in all we have some amazing memories of our stay in a beautiful villa on a stunning, interesting and fascinating island full of contradictions. Perfect! Thanks again guys.
