Surin is one of the northeastern provinces of Thailand and the capital of Surin Province. It is a densely populated area but with not many inhabitants. Neighboring provinces are Buriram, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, and Sisaket. Surin lies about 450 km east of Bangkok and 50 km from the Cambodian border. The capital, is the homonymous Surin city, in the western central region. Surin is a relatively quiet town known for its annual Elephant Roundup, which takes place in November. Surin's people relationship with elephants dates back in time, thus the provincial icon of an elephant that stands for power and intelligence. Surin is also known for its beautiful silk fabrics and jasmine rice. Surin has natural beauty and its picturesque bay with turquoise waters and powdery white sand, but also its quiet character attracts celebrities who enjoy the view of the Andaman Sea from the luxury villas and resorts. This is the reason why Surin is alternatively known as 'Millionaire's Row'.
