Kumara Villa itself is made up of open-plan pavilions. The three king-size bedroom suites are set in their own walled gardens and have their own indoor/ outdoor bathing facilities. Besides, they also have large private terraces fronting stunning tropical views. The main living pavilion has bi-fold doors and windows and opens into the beautifully landscaped gardens and the large decked saltwater pool area.
Kumara villa has a fully staffed kitchen, which is located separately from the main living room and dining pavilion. The open plan dining room has a 12 ft table with 8 chairs and bifold doors and windows allowing in the tropical breeze. The living area is comfortably fitted for relaxing, socializing, and entertaining. It overlooks the lush tropical gardens on one side and the shimmering saltwater pool on the other. Sun loungers decorate the poolside. There is also a pergola with shaded and cushioned seating under an antique fan. The villa is fully serviced by cooks, house girls, pool attendants, 24 hr security, and a private guest manager.
Weligama is a traditional example of a surf town on the south coast of Sri Lanka. With its open bay facing the Indian Ocean, there have been reliable waves to navigate for most of the year. But after you leave the pool, the fun doesn't end. You've still got fascinating pubs, vibrant nightlife spots, and some very beautiful beachfront surroundings to get on the itinerary. Weligama itself is remarkably attractive as Sri Lankan towns go: peaceful and comparatively traffic-free, its modest commercial center trails off into lush streets of pretty gingerbread villas adorned with decorated mal lali wooden frills, while on the well-tended seafront avenue, ladies sit in front of their houses hunched over bits of lace, a local speciality since the Dutch days.
It's no wonder that most people flock to Weligama Bay for surfing. With over a mile of swell facing the beach right on the doorstep, there are plenty of peaks and waves to get lost in these areas. They are, in general, tailored to the total number of beginners. That means all kinds of surfing lessons, private coaches, and surfboard rentals pepper the sands. Away from this idyllic coastline, visit Sri Lanka's green rural hinterland with quiet villages, paddy fields, meandering lagoons and ancient temples by guided bike rides. Take a boat or kayak to nearby Koggala Lake, its tranquil lagoon lined with fragrant cinnamon gardens and tropical wildlife.
