Ronda is a city located on the top of a mountain in Spain’s Malaga province that’s set above a deep gorge, El Tajo, boasting dramatic views. El Tajo gorge separates the city’s new town from its old town, dating to Moorish rule. Benchmark of the new town is famous Plaza de Toros, a legendary 18th-century bullring.
Despite being a growing town Ronda retains much of its historic charm, particularly its old town. Visitors flock to see the 18th century Puente Nuevo 'new' bridge, which straddles the 100m chasm below the gorge, before taking in the views from the Alameda out over the Serranía de Ronda Mountains.
Ronda is also famous as the birthplace of modern bullfighting, today present once a year at the spectacular Feria Goyesca. Held at the beginning of September, here fighters and some of the audience dress in the manner of Goya's sketches of life in the region.
