About the Location

Spain, Andalusia, Malaga Province

Ronda is a city located on the top of a mountain in Spain’s Malaga province that’s set above a deep gorge, El Tajo, boasting dramatic views. El Tajo gorge separates the city’s new town from its old town, dating to Moorish rule. Benchmark of the new town is famous Plaza de Toros, a legendary 18th-century bullring.

Despite being a growing town Ronda retains much of its historic charm, particularly its old town. Visitors flock to see the 18th century Puente Nuevo 'new' bridge, which straddles the 100m chasm below the gorge, before taking in the views from the Alameda out over the Serranía de Ronda Mountains.

Ronda is also famous as the birthplace of modern bullfighting, today present once a year at the spectacular Feria Goyesca. Held at the beginning of September, here fighters and some of the audience dress in the manner of Goya's sketches of life in the region. Legendary Rondeño bullfighter Pedro Romero also left his trace here. The bullring, Plaza de Toros, is now a museum, and visitors can stroll out into the arena.

Alexandre Dumas, Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles, and many other artists have described, in their works or writings, the strong sensations provoked by their discovery of the town of Ronda, in Spain. Weighty with a complex history rich in numerous influences, the town, and its well-preserved surroundings are also highly picturesque. A few kilometers from the historic center, in the countryside far from crowds and urban bustle, Rasero Retreat is a peaceful and serene place to retreat, an ideal pied-à-terre for this part of the Marbella hinterland.
