The village Minia is located 6km from Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia Island and is very close to the airport. You will also find it referred to in the plural, “Minies”. The beach at Minia attracts a lot of tourists during the summer. Minies, according to the tradition, were initially built in at least three different locations but the pirate raids destroyed the village and its inhabitants rebuilt it to safer places. The main church is that of the Virgin of Maggana, first built in 1666 destroyed by the 1953 earthquake and rebuilt. From Minia, you can visit the lighthouse of St. Theodore, the sights of Argostoli and also the small islet of Vardianoi.
Kefalonia is the largest island of the Ionian group, located between Lefkada and Zante. Due to the size of the island Kefalonia never gets too crowded or too noisy, not even in high season and this makes it ideal for family holidays.
