Kavousi lies 26 km east of Agios Nikolaos town, on the way to Sitia. The closest tourist resort is Pahia Ammos, which is a beautiful sandy beach. Kavousi is a large bay with clean water and pebbles on the shore. As it is open to strong winds, it gets frequently affected by the meltemia winds of August. Through a walking path from Kavousi, nature lovers can visit the gorge of Messona and the Minoan copper mines of Chrissokamino which constitutes a great hiking destination.
Located on the eastern side of Crete, Lasithi is the least tourist region of Crete island.
