Kavrochori is a village located 10km from the city of Heraklion in an altitude of 60m. It took its name from the crustacean crab, which in the Cretan dialect is called ‘kavros’ (kavouras in standard Greek), due to the fact that they were found in the nearby river of Gazanos.
