Gournes village is situated 15 kilometers east of Heraklion. It is a relatively small but very picturesque village. It took its name from "gourna" meaning “basin”, and it is believed that there used to be many watering-places in the area in the past. The evidence still exists, as a "river" basin still runs through the center of the village. It is dry in the summer but during winter and spring its ample water ends up in the sea nearby. Gournes is more traditional and has been intact by tourism. It doesn’t display overly developed touristic infrastructure and is ideal for a tranquil hospitable holiday.

The place is extremely clean and very well maintained. It is located in a very quite location (car, bike or taxi needed) with 2 taverna located at walking distance; airport located at 15 minutes driving distance, Heraklion at 10'. Shopping area with several food stores, general retail shops and take-away restaurants on main road in between the Villa and the city.
We especially enjoyed the garden kitchen located on the large terrace at pool side including fully equipped kitchen, dining and living room; area where we spent most of our time relaxing after visiting the region which is full of canyons, historical places offering plenty of opportunities to walk around.

The villa is just flawless, I haven't expected it to be so perfect. It has everything you need for a peaceful stay. Everything looks exactly like on the pictures. We haven't even used the second floor (where the living room + kitchen is located) as the condo on the backyard is very well equipped for cooking (fridge, plates, microwave oven, coffee machine, everything).
Although the views from the balcony are amazing! Ah, really, don't have words to describe how I liked it. We've just spent 2 nights there and I want to come back already. Also, thank you Petros for being so friendly, helpful and approachable.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Heraklion area, don't hesitate this villa is amazing and it's owner's hospitality is exemplary. From the reservation, the contact with Petros was great, he met us at the airport and helped us with the car rental and guided us to the villa. What a great surprise when we arrived - the villa is even better than pictures which are amazing. Everything is designed with taste and the villa is immaculately clean, there are 3 bedrooms each one with a bathroom which is so convenient, the beds were comfy and we slept very very well. Upstairs there is a living room with a kitchen and dining area but we didn't use it as we spent all the time outside.
There is a fantastic garden with a very good size swimming pool and very very well equipped summer kitchen. The villa is so well equipped - all you can need - you find! The wifi was working perfectly inside and outside. This place is so beautiful and peaceful!
