Georgioupolis Chania is located 37 km south east of Chania town. It is a long, sandy beach that stretches for over 9 kilometers. Although it is affected by the northern summer winds called meltemia, the beach is much frequented, especially its west side. The eastern side has some deserted spots if you prefer privacy and seclusion. In general, Georgioupolis is a well-organized beach, which apart from swimming and sunbathing, offers a wide range of sea sports and beach facilities. You can enjoy a refreshment drink at the beach bars or have a delicious meal in the seaside fish taverns. Georgioupolis is well-connected with regular buses to the nearby cities of Crete. Worth visiting is the nearby Lake Kournas which is the only freshwater lake in Crete.
