About the Location

Greece, Santorini

Akrotiri Santorini is located next to the famous Red Beach. It is amphitheatrically built at the southeastern side of the island. Akrotiri is the most important archeological site of Santorini for the fact that it used to be a Minoan settlement which was destroyed around 1600 BC due to a devastating volcanic eruption. Akrotiri village is dotted with scenic houses and here you will find a traditional windmill. Many tour boats arrive in Akrotiri and tourists disembark to the nearby beaches. A sight not to be missed is the Venetian castle. The outstanding frescoes of the ancient city of Akrotiri can only be seen in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Akrotiri has plenty of churches worth visiting and among the most special ones is the church of Agios Nikolaos built right above the impressive reddish rocks of the Red Beach. In Akrotiri, you will find some lovely hotels and also many tasty taverns with a beautiful sea view.

The everlasting beauty of Santorini island attracts thousands of visitors every year being among the top tourist destinations in the world. Its wild volcanic landscape, the rugged cliffs, the wild nature and beautiful beaches combined with its rich history and traditions make Santorini the crown jewel of Greece. Santorini's initial shape during ancient times was round. It got its present shape in about 1,650 BC due to a severe volcanic eruption that vanished half of the island. Today, half of Santorini caldera is submerged, which makes it the only sunken caldera in the world.

Each island in the Aegean has its own identity of unique wild beauty and rich cultural heritage. Some of these pristine islands are for the most part unexplored, such as Chios, Lesvos, Samos and Thasos, while others display a very vibrant day and nightlife and is where the heart of tourism beats, such as cosmopolitan Mykonos, Santorini with the most mesmerizing sunset, Rhodes with the biggest square in Europe and the Achillion palace of princess Sissy, and Paros and Ios with their whitewashed alleys and welcoming turquoise beaches.

Being among the top 20 tourist destinations worldwide, Greece is synonymous with 3 things: history and ancient civilization, amazing landscapes and top touristic destinations. Greece is so wealthy in culture and beauty that it never seems to be completely explored. Holidays in Greece is the ultimate experience all year round. It offers a great pallet of experiences; the warm sun, the crystal clear beaches, the dramatic nature, the rich culture and the renowned hospitality along with the unique culinary experience of the Mediterranean diet.

The week-long vacation in Greece was the ideal length for this villa.

The Akrotiri restaurants and shops are close by and may be reached on foot. Very clean, good WiFi, and top-notch customer service. If you need assistance, just give the host a phone or text. She assisted my group in scheduling our ferry trips to Mykonos and even put me in touch with a fantastic car rental agency.

This was a wonderful spot to relax and decompress.

It is quite personal. The accommodations were well equipped with everything you could possibly need, including robes and slippers. A pleasant surprise was the brunch. The jacuzzi had a great view of the sea and was warm and pleasant. It is nice to stay in Akrotiri. Local eateries and shops are accessible by foot. Even walking will get you to the red beach. We discovered that the bus, which was inexpensive, was the greatest way to get around the island. and is ubiquitous. Don't take it personally, but if you are fortunate enough to get the same bus conductor as we had, he is a genuine joy. The host was extremely kind and made us feel at home.
