REVIEW SCORE

Sitting proud on its own rocky outcrop, the distinctive silhouette of Mingary Castle has looked over the Sound of Mull for centuries. The seat of Clan MacIain for over 300 years, it’s one of Scotland’s true hidden gems. Until early 2016, the Castle was all but an abandoned ruin. After three years of meticulously orchestrated restoration work, its impressive ranges now house an elegant combination of luxurious accommodation and history. Set amongst magnificent scenery, typical of this part of the world – here at Mingary you’ll find fine dining, gorgeous Georgian style, vivid traces of history, and a world-class standard of hospitality.

Mingary Castle offers four unique suites (sleeping ten) with fine bathrooms and four-poster beds. You will be met with a hearty welcome at the end of your journey where you will be given a tour around the castle and an opportunity to explore, then you can sit back, relax and let us take care of you. Wander through the towering walls of the main courtyard to the front door of the MacDonald Suite, a self-contained apartment in the West Range of the Castle. Step inside and you’ll find a cozy, beautifully furnished setting complete with an exposed stone fireplace and a wood-burning stove that few can resist curling up in front of. The hand-carved oak staircase leads up to a first-floor bedroom with a king-sized antique four-poster bed and its own en-suite with a shower over the bath. A favorite with two and four-legged guests alike.

About the Location

United Kingdom, Scotland, Kilchoan

Kilchoan village is one of the most remote communities in the Lochaber area and the most westerly village in mainland Great Britain. In the past, it was accessible only by sea, but this changed with the construction of a road that connected Ardnamurchan with the rest of Scotland. The road goes along the peninsula's south coast for its most part. Kilchoan is the only significant settlement in western Ardnamurchan, with a small population of around 150 inhabitants.  Today it operates a ferry connection linking Kilchoan with Tobermory, on Mull. This ferry link provides an alternative route into or out of Ardnamurchan. This opens up the possibility of a long excursion to the West Highlands and Mull including the Corran and Oban to Mull ferries. The area is totally unspoiled, peaceful, and perfect if you need to escape to regain some sanity away from the contemporary world, surrounded by the serenity of nature.

Scotland is a place of myth that combines breathtaking scenery, unique art, and science museums, along with castles unlike anywhere else, and is considered as one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is bounded by England to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the west and north, and the North Sea to the east. It is situated in the north of the United Kingdom and is divided into three main areas: The Upper Lowlands which is an agricultural region with verdant hills north of the UK/Scotland border. The Central Lowlands which have a predominantly industrial and urban character, containing the big urban cities of both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Even though it is a small nation, the United Kingdom offers beautiful countryside, over the top beaches and special character. It is a must-visit destination with unbelievably beauty, stunning coastline, peacefulness and breathtaking lakes. Here there is a sense of history while you can find lots of “weird” traditions. The nation is a pot of different cultures and religions. Consisting of four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, you will be amazed by its wildlife and picturesque villages. Some of the best cities in the world are located here with the capital cities of London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast being the most well known.
