Strathdon is a small rural village in Aberdeenshire that took its name due to its position on the River Don. It is situated in proximity to the River Don, 45 miles west of Aberdeen in the Highlands. Strathdon is included in the Cairngorms National Park and is framed by breathtaking verdant scenery and includes many places of interest offering great opportunities to observe wildlife. There are small communities included in Strathdon, the largest of these being Bellabeg. Every summer the Clansmen of the Lonach Highlanders march through Strathdon to Bellabeg Park for the Lonach Gathering, a unique and friendly Highland Games, which is arguably one of the most famous Highland Games in Scotland attended by celebrities. The Games host the best of Scottish sports and culture including highland dancing, the caber toss and tug-o-war, and many other traditional sports.
Strathdon is steeped in history and its visitors can travel back in time discovering stories of the past at Corgarff and Glenbuchat Castles and explore the Doune of Invernochty.
