Jambiani is an small old fishing settlement on the southeast coast of Zanzibar. It's still authenitc, with just a few small lodges and guesthouses. Jambiani has a relaxed atmosphere with welcoming locals who mix with travelers. Fishing and algae farming are their primary source of income. This is a perfect place to get a good look into the local way of life, and everything is within walking distance. There are a variety of nice restaurants on the beach where you can enjoy tasty fish, but also other foods. You should stroll on the beach after dinner, back to your cabin. Jambiani is a cozy and safe place to stay.
Jambiani has a lovely 7 km long beach with swaying palms. Unlike other beaches in the north, this beach has powdery white sand and barely any rocks or sea-urchins. The barrier reef sits a few kilometers away, with a stunning turquoise crystal lagoon in between. The big lagoon of swallow water is ideal for wading, snorkeling and diving and provides an outstanding view of the sea. Thanks to its calm side-shore waves, Jambiani is also an excellent location for wind-or kitesurfing. It's nice to dive in the Indian Ocean, and at low tide, you can take a nice shore stroll.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania, composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago which consists of many small islands and two large ones: Unguja and Pemba Island.
