Food is good, fresh Italian inspired/seafood fare and always very tasty. If I was to make a small complaint it is that you do eat a lot of pasta which though I enjoy my wife does not and sometimes it did feel a little uncomfortable asking for something else. However they are always helpful in offering alternatives and would reiterate that I thoroughly enjoyed the food.
You can do small nearby excursions (we went to nearby shops, walk on the main beach and the dhow trip to a nearby sandbank) which were all easy to arrange, with friendly staff from the villa and enjoyable. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would certainly return since it offers a more interesting, personal and less touristy experience to other Indian ocean beach places.
The food was world class, everything was fresh and yummy, we discussed our menu for the day in the morning and got above and beyond what we expected. We loved how the food was presented and how they had different linen each night. This villa is way above your imagination!
We all cannot wait to go back to Alfajiri Villas very soon. Alfajiri is home and fabulous!!! We have finally found a place we can escape too!!!
First and foremost, please forget all the negative things you hear about Kenya...this place is safe, peaceful, beautiful and this trip was one of the nicest experiences my wife and I have ever experienced.
Lots of you have heard about a 'Bucket ' if you haven't, please look it up. Please, I urge you to have one and can I suggest that this place is added...when you 'tick the box' you will do it with a great deal of pleasure and happy memories.
So, my visit to Alfajiri was a couple of months ago, but I remember every second. You fly into Ukunda...a 30 minute or so flight from Nairobi and your driver picks you up and it is a 5 minute run to the Villa. The place is unsigned and off the main road but when you arrive, you are met by the owner and walk into an oasis of heaven.
We had the beach villa, Fabrizio, the owner introduced us to Iphraim (our butler) and Kamanza (his assistant). Apologies for the spelling guys! Now, my wife and I are from a very middle class background, so it is odd to have two people looking after you so personally during your stay, but they were marvellous. You hardly ever saw them...they kept away from us...but strangely, whenever you wanted something...they appeared, as if by magic! They were happy, funny, helpful and the service was out of this world. As to the villa itself...wow...what a place. It was absolute perfection and beauty all rolled into one. The rooms were stunning, the view of the Indian Ocean from our bedroom was quite amazing and the whole ambience was one of the best I have ever experienced.
Every day was just total peace, pleasure and pampering. Fabrizio met us every morning and evening to discuss what we would like to eat, Iphraim was there to provide coffees and teas, or more often than not ice cold beer, wine and gin and tonics. The meals were excellent and were taken when we were ready and no pressure on us to keep to a timetable.
I could go on, but I have work to do, so I will leave you to make your own mind up. All I can say is, if I ever find anywhere as perfect as this, I will let you readers know. Go on, spoil yourself...I did and I got a lot of 'brownie points' with the missus!!
