A sanctuary in the hills of Ubud, Amala Villas Ubud is an intimate resort that prides itself on being a home away from home. Situated on 3,000 square metres of land above the villages of Sebali and Keliki, it overlooks the river Wos on the edge of a ridge surrounded by paddy fields.

Combining traditional Balinese architecture with the simplicity and clean lines of modern design, Amala Villas Ubud is comprised of three houses connected by a walkway. It accommodates up to 14 adults comfortably and has adequate common areas to ensure sufficient privacy—ideal for family friends or up to seven couples. With beautiful views of quaint paddy fields, the Main House has an open living area with a large daybed overlooking a 20-meter pool, as well as a kitchen, library, and powder room. Bodhi, the master bedroom on the second floor leads out to a spacious balcony with daybeds on either end and a veranda that overlooks the pool and paddy fields. Its luxuriously spacious bathroom contains a bathtub with a shower and an outdoor shower on the terrace.

The Valley House has an open billiards area on the top floor with an immense alang-alang roof and wide verandas for al fresco dining. Below this are two guest rooms, Wani and Arbesia, connected by a single veranda overlooking the tranquil River Wos; both are en suite with showers and baths. On the ground level is Jarak, a second master bedroom with an indoor bath and shower overlooking the lush tropical valley as well as an outdoor shower in its own private garden. There is a media room with a large television to screen movies or satellite programming and a karaoke system for those who like to sing. This room can also be converted into another en suite guest room and shares a veranda with Jarak. Guests can stroll around the garden, have breakfast with the sun rising over the valley, or take in the beauty of the rice terraces from a bale that sits at the edge of the garden.

Newly constructed at the last quarter of 2017, the North House has an open dining pavilion, which can be closed up for a more private setting, and a floating deck that overlooks the lush valley. The second floor boasts a luxuriously fitted third master bedroom, Kendal, with a balcony that overlooks the River Wos and offers calming views of the valley and of the paddy fields towards the north. Its en suite bathroom is a little smaller compared to the other bathrooms but has the best facilities.

About the Location

Indonesia, Bali, Ubud

Ubud is considered to be Bali's cultural heart and here you will find the most important art museums of Bali. It's just an hour's drive north of the airport and among the mountains. Ubud is also home to one of Bali's royal families and it features a majestic palace in the center of town. Ubud is also renowned as a crafts center. There are numerous shops selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewellery in Ubud. Ubud's main street is dotted with dozens of art studios, an excellent local craft market and plenty of galleries.

Around Ubud, popular are the villages of Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan and Batuan, which specialize in crafts and woodcarving, sold all over the island. Ubud Monkey Forest is the most popular stop for tourists in the town of Ubud. Macaque monkeys roam freely to this green paradise which also includes an imposing temple complex. Ubud rice fields still cover a large part of Ubud, despite its development that can be easily reached on foot or by bicycle and are definitely a cultural experience. The Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah) is located just 10 minutes south of Ubud and is one of the most sacred places of Bali. Along with this, there is a great variety of Hindu temples that you can visit for free or with a small donation.

Ubud is a great place for shopping and almost a sophisticated experience in respect to the more mass production touristy shops of Kuta. You can also get holistically healed in one of the exclusive spas of Ubud; an experience that can be shared with the whole family and friends. Your visit to Ubud would be incomplete without watching a traditional dance performance. Although a touristic sight, it will give you an insight to the Hindu legends
