Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali’s most important landmarks, famous for its breathtaking offshore setting and sunset backdrops. Tanah Lot means "Land [in the] Sea" in the Balinese language and is located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometers North West of Denpasar. Tanah Lot is claimed to be the work of the 16th-century Dang Hyang Nirartha. The ancient Hindu shrine is found on top of an outcrop amidst crashing waves; It's the most visited and photographed temple in Bali; the tower of rock that the temple sits upon is a reconstruction and more than one-third of the rock is artificial.
