Mystras is a stunning fortified town and a former municipality in Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece, situated on Mt. Taygetos, near ancient Sparta. The Castle Town of Mystras was very potent in the Byzantine times especially during the last decades of the Byzantine period and it was the second most important town after Constantinople. The famous Palace of the Despots was perched on the top of the castle hill. Mystras Greece is renowned for its cultural heritage including various Byzantine churches of distinguished architecture and masterpiece frescoes. The new village has been constructed under the wing of the Medieval Castle, featuring traditional architecture and maintaining this mystique flair of the past. The surrounding region is crossed by many trekking paths, especially beautiful during spring, leading to spots of abundant verdant nature. The lush greenery surrounding the area is composed mainly by pine trees and cypresses. Some small rivers and lakes are found in the region.
Lakonia lies in the southern part of the Peloponnese to the south of Arkadia and to the east of Messinia. The minute you walk onto the Euphoria Retreat grounds, you are treated like royalty. Every person knows and calls you by your name, they know what program you are on and have your every need at their fingertips. You will get a tour when you check in and of course the pièce de résistance is the spa. It’s not a spa, it’s a spAAAHHH. It’s gorgeous, inviting and relaxing. Everything was built with you in mind. I was in Heaven. I did the Wellness Detox with the meal plan. They set up your treatments for you and you can add on or change them as needed. Do not miss: Watsu massage, Mineral Molds treatment or the body scrub. I wish I could have done the Watsu more then once. It’s a light massage and stretching in a warm pool. The Mineral Mold is a 120 minute treatment. For 40 minutes they rub essential oils on you, then a mineral mask is applied, you are wrapped up in a heated blanket, while your head and scalp are massages for 40 minutes. Wow!!! The yogi, Eliz is wonderful. Patient, kind, nuturing and knowledgeable. Make sure you take one (or all) of the free hikes throughout the week. And don’t miss going to the castle, it’s so interesting. The owner Marianna was in the restaurant a lot and came to talk to me a few times.
The food is excellent and varied, prepared individually for each guest. Internet is very good. The service staff is fantastic. Activity managers are professional. Beautiful walking every day in the mountains with one time swimming in the mountain spring.
