About the Location

Greece, Crete, Lasithi

An international cosmopolitan seaside resort, attracting thousands of visitors every year. The lake, the town’s jewel, is known for its many legends, according to one of which, Athena and Artemis are bathing in its waters. The lake becomes one with the sea through a narrow canal and is surrounded by red rock formations and lush vegetation. Agios Nikolaos centers on Lake Voulismeni, a small, circular lake ringed by steep rocky cliffs to one side and open-air cafés and seafood restaurants to the other. It is hardly ever referred to by name and is usually only called "the lake" on signs, maps, and in general conversation. Agios Nikolaos is the perfect base to explore the surrounding towns and villages, including the upmarket small resort of Elounda or a little further north along the bay, the busy village of Plaka, a place that is bucking the trend of the economic slowdown having been discovered by many tourists following the success of Victoria Hislop’s bestselling book The Island and its subsequent dramatization made for Greek television. The island in question is Spinalonga, the old Venetian fortress and former leper colony lying just a stone’s throw offshore of Plaka and can be reached by boat from here, or indeed from Elounda or Agios Nikolaos itself.

Located on the eastern side of Crete, Lasithi is the least tourist region of Crete island. Although it includes some popular places such as Elounda, a VIPs and jet-setters resort, Sissi, Sitia and Ierapetra, the rest of the region has maintained its authentic traditional character, away from mass tourism. Various small towns, busy coastal resorts and picturesque mountainous villages can be found around the prefecture of Lasithi.

Crete is the largest island in Greece and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea. Here you can admire the remnants of brilliant civilizations, explore glorious beaches, impressive mountainscapes, fertile valleys and steep gorges, and become part of the island’s rich gastronomic culture. One of the most popular destinations of the country, Crete is the dream of a lifetime for millions of tourists.

Being among the top 20 tourist destinations worldwide, Greece is synonymous with 3 things: history and ancient civilization, amazing landscapes and top touristic destinations. Greece is so wealthy in culture and beauty that it never seems to be completely explored. Holidays in Greece is the ultimate experience all year round. It offers a great pallet of experiences; the warm sun, the crystal clear beaches, the dramatic nature, the rich culture and the renowned hospitality along with the unique culinary experience of the Mediterranean diet.

It is a really serene, calm, and lovely villa

The cove acts as a windbreak, making the site fantastic. I think you definitely need a car because it's so far from anything. Rent a car unless you solely intend to stay at the resort. The rooms were spacious and really comfy. The resort is lovely in and of itself. Although there is some room for improvement, none are really significant, the service is outstanding overall.
