Pyrgos is a traditional medieval village that is built amphitheatrically on a hill and offers amazing views in all directions. It is very picturesque, with narrow labyrinth-like streets, a Venetian castle, and countless churches, charming and capturing the hearts of visiting tourists and its permanent residents alike. It is one of the highest villages on the island and, at the same time one of the coolest on hot summer days. Pyrgos is situated almost in the center of the island, at a similar distance from the cosmopolitan capital, the port, the airport, and the beautiful beaches of Perivolos, the Red Beach, and Kamari. At a short walking distance, one can enjoy the wonderful view of the Caldera. There are a plethora of options for dining, whether you are looking for traditional or fine dining restaurants. Pyrgos is considered one of the most picturesque and least spoiled by the tourism villages of Santorini.
The iconic house perched on the southern side of the village of Pyrgos is located next to the church of Saint Dimitrios and has been reconstructed by Oikos Tsebelis. The house has been a prominent building since the 19th century and has been photographed extensively while today the yellow windows and doors are a reference point. It is located a few minutes' walks from the central square of Pyrgos and just below the Venetian fortress.
It has two levels that share an entrance but are completely private. The upper level features an open space living area with a small kitchenette and sofa bed. The bedroom is located above the living area on a stylish loft. The house features vibrant colors and luxurious amenities. You also have an unobstructed view of the whole southern side of the island as well as the village of Pyrgos from above. The lower level features an open plan space with a sofa bed and a queen-size bed. The bathroom follows the cave-like character of the house. It has a large veranda with an ornate marble table, ideal for dining throughout the day.
Pyrgos is situated 8 km southeast of Fira, on top of a hill boasting incredible panoramic views of Santorini. Pyrgos used to be the capital of the island until the early 1800s. The village displays the traditional Cycladic architecture of the island and is built all around a Venetian castle. The Venetian castle is one of the five on the island of Santorini and dates back to the 13th century. It is amphitheatrically built on the hill and opens up to astounding views of both sides of the island. The village displays many churches. The most famous church of the island is the Monastery of Prophet Elias built at the highest spot of the homonymous mountain, located 4 km from Pyrgos village.

Its wild volcanic landscape, the rugged cliffs, the wild nature and beautiful beaches combined with its rich history and traditions make Santorini the crown jewel of Greece. Santorini's initial shape during ancient times was round. It got its present shape in about 1,650 BC due to a severe volcanic eruption that vanished half of the island. Today, half of Santorini caldera is submerged, which makes it the only sunken caldera in the world.

We loved our stay at Valsamo Suites! The service by all the staff was impeccable, and the suite itself was super spacious and greatly decorated. We loved staying at Pyrgos and Valsamo is located at the best spot in the village, nearby great restaurants. Right between two blue-domed churches, it can not get more picturesque! Looking forward to coming back to this place
I loved that our suite was private but not covered. If we ever come to Santorini again, will definitely book Valsamo.
