About the Location

Australia, Victoria, Johanna

Johanna is a rural farming settlement stretching along the coast between Glenaire and Lavers Hill. Rolling hills and lush rain forest meet at the foot of the wild Southern Ocean. Johanna is named after the schooner "Joanna" that was wrecked at the mouth of the Johanna River on 22 September 1843.

The area is steeped in history, from the discovery of dinosaur fossils in the Glenaire Valley to the Cape Otway Lightstation, the oldest of its type on mainland Australia.

The surf beach at Johanna is noted for its power and reputation for rapid jumps in size. Johanna beach is also a very popular fishing spot particularly for schools of salmon.

Covering 227,600 square kilometers hugging the tip of Australia's east coast, Victoria is Australia's second-smallest state,

A wealth of diverse regions and attractions are packed into this compact area, with sweeping coastlines, pristine beaches, national parks, and forests teeming with wildlife, plus wineries, lakes, and mountains offering skiing, climbing, and hiking. Best of all, many of Victoria's unique and varied landscapes are easily reached as day trips from Melbourne.

Grand nineteenth-century architecture and elegant gardens, built following the discovery of gold, are a reminder of Victoria's 'Gold Rush' past, while Aboriginal cultural landmarks and landscapes continue to connect Indigenous Australians from South Eastern Australia with a living cultural heritage dating back more than 60,000 years.

Australia as a country comprises the mainland of the Australian continent, Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands. It is the largest country in Oceania and the world's sixth-largest country by total area. The neighboring countries are Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor to the north, New Zealand to the south-east and the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to the north-east. Its population of 25 million is mostly concentrated in urban centers on the eastern part. Australia's capital is Canberra, and its largest city is Sydney.
